I used to believe that a strawberry smoothie couldn't be improved. Well... that was before I added a banana to the mixture. Not only does it cause the smoothie to be considerably smoother and richer, it also removes the need to add extra sweetener.
After creating this scrumptious smoothie, I became very curious where smoothies originated. It seems odd that someone would decide to mash up some fruits with milk and then decide to drink it. Apparently, that's exactly how the smoothie was created. A guy named Steve Kuhnua decided to mix some fruits together in a blender because he had very low blood sugar, and many different allergies. Eventually after concocting many delicious smoothies, he opened a store called The Smoothie King, where he sold vitamins and health drinks. As a result, there are now over 650 different Smoothie King stores across the U.S. Wow. Way to go Steve!
Strawberry Banana Smoothie:
Yield: 1 serving
Prep: 5 min
Ready In: 5 min
8 large frozen strawberries
1 medium banana
1/2 cup yogurt
3/4 cup coconut milk (regular milk is also fine)
In a blender or food processor, blend frozen strawberries until crushed. Add banana, milk, and yogurt, and blend until smooth.
Pour into a large glass. Enjoy!
Note: If you prefer sweeter smoothies, you can add some powdered sugar (granulated probably wouldn't dissolve), stevia, or splenda. I got the information on the Smoothie King here: http://www.smoothieking.com/about/the-story-of-smoothie-king.php
